$15 per family prepaid online or $5 per person at the door, children under 6 free.
Please check in at the Visitor’s Center. House tours limited to 20 persons, first come, first serve.

Spring Homeschool Day: "Slavery to Freedom"
Slavery to Freedom - Visit stations throughout the day and learn about the life of the enslaved at Sotterley during the 1800’sWednesday, March 15, 2017

Designed  for middle school-aged students

Visit 4 stations throughout the day and learn about life at Sotterley during the Civil War. Students learn to appreciate what the life of an enslaved family was like who lived and labored at Sotterley Plantation during the Civil War Era by participating in hands-on activities at our original slave quarter and outbuildings.

Station — Slave Cabin — 10:30 am & 1:30 pm
Station — Corn Crib and Exhibit — noon & 3:00 pm
Station — Kitchen — 10:30 am & 1:30 pm
Station — Plantation House — noon & 3:00  pm

Fall Homeschool Day: "Pollinator Power as part of Tidewater Plantation Life"
Tidewater Plantation Life - Visit stations throughout the day and learn about the lives of children on a Tidewater plantation!Wednesday, September 13, 2017
 10 am - 4 pm
  - Perfect for all ages

Visit 4 stations throughout the day and learn about life at Sotterley during the 1700’s. Appropriate for younger students in Grades 2-6, children are immersed in the daily lives of children on a Plantation using hands-on activities that illustrate work, interactive games, education, behavior, and food using the backdrop of Sotterley Plantation’s outbuildings and gardens. Students compare the lives of these children to their own experiences while learning about the importance of pollinators. Students complete a craft to take home.

Station — Games (Field in front of Manor House; just beyond the portico)  — 10:30 am & 1:30 pm
Station — Garden (adjacent to the Manor House)  — noon & 3:00 pm
Station — School House (School house on left when facing Manor House) — 10:30 am & 1:30 pm
Station — Spinning Cottage (To the right of the Manor House) noon & 3:00 pm

While Visiting Historic Sotterley be sure to check out these Self-Guided Activities:

  • Go for a walk on Sotterley’s nature trails!
    (Map available at the Visitor Center)

  • Visit Sotterley’s Colonial Revival Gardens!

  • Birdwatching

  • Have a picnic on the grounds!

  • Visit Sotterley’s Play Area located behind the Visitor Center!

  • Visit the Museum Shop for admissions, gifts, books, toys, snacks, and other items for purchase.

Sotterley is a great place to bring your homeschool group. If you have a group of less than 15 students and parents, homeschoolers can enjoy and learn from all the activities offered on a regular basis for the normal site fees per person.

If you have 15 or more confirmed in your group, you may choose to book one of our education programs. All booking procedures and prices apply.
